The Chairman of the General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons (GASIMP) conducted an official visit to the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP). The visit aimed to strengthen mutual cooperation and participate in the launch of a revised version of the ICMP paper on implementing Best Practices within the Libyan Context.
Commitment to International Standards
This visit underscores GASIMP’s commitment to evolving national operational mechanisms in alignment with international standards. It further supports efforts to uncover the fate of the missing, ensuring the rights of their families to truth and justice.
The revised paper incorporates vital observations and recommendations provided by the relevant working group, including GASIMP—representing the Government of National Unity—during its meeting last November. These contributions were designed to ensure the paper’s content is tailored to the specificities and existing challenges of the Libyan landscape.
Technical Coordination and Future Outlook
During the meeting, both parties discussed the importance of sustained technical coordination and the exchange of expertise. They emphasized GASIMP’s pivotal role in supporting international initiatives, which contributes to developing a robust search and identification system in Libya based on globally recognized best practices.
With the continued support of all stakeholders, the final version of the paper is expected to be published during the current month of February. This release marks a significant milestone in strengthening the institutional and technical framework for managing the missing persons file in Libya.
