Overview

Establishment
GASIMP was established under Presidential Council Decree No. (525) in 2018 for the Government of National Accord, amended by Decrees No. (290) in2021 and No. (361) of 2020, approving the organizational structure and mandate of the General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons.

Organizational Structure
The Authority’s administrative framework comprises:

  • 7 technical and administrative departments
  • 7 specialized offices

Personnel (as of end-2022)

  • 194 employees (under Decree No. 27 of 2020)
    • 156 regularly paid staff
    • 22 seconded experts

 

Importance of Our Work

The Authority mobilizes all available resources to address disappearances and determine the fate of missing persons across Libya – whether due to wars, forced disappearances, or irregular migration. Our work focuses on:

  • Mass Graves: Preservation, documentation, and dignified reburial in accordance with Islamic rites.
  • Family Support: Respecting the rights of missing persons’ families while providing psychosocial assistance.
  • National Reconciliation: Contributing to transitional justice and strengthening the rule of law.
