GASIMP Approves Genetic Matching Results for 22 Derna Flood Victims

Prof. Dr. Kamal Al-Siwi, Chairman of the General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons (GASIMP), chaired the regular meeting of the Scientific Committee tasked with overseeing the identification of victims from Storm Daniel in the city of Derna.

Verification and DNA Matching

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed DNA reports submitted by the Laboratory Department and cross-referenced them with technical reports from other specialized departments. The rigorous scientific process resulted in the successful identification of 22 previously unidentified bodies through DNA profiling. These results were confirmed following the completion of all technical protocols and established standards for verification.

Legal Referral

The final identification results have been officially approved and referred to the Attorney General’s Office to complete the necessary legal procedures for these cases.
