The third training workshop titled “Forensic Archaeology” officially launched yesterday at the headquarters of the General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons (GASIMP). The program is organized in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation (FAFG), targeting 35 trainees from GASIMP’s specialized technical staff.

Scientific Foundations and Field Techniques

The first day of the workshop covered several key modules, including an introduction to the scientific and practical fundamentals of forensic archaeology and its role in locating burial sites and exhuming remains in accordance with approved professional standards and procedures.

Advanced Supporting Technologies

The sessions also provided detailed explanations regarding supporting devices and technologies used in the field. Instructors introduced their operational mechanisms and highlighted their importance in enhancing field search and detection operations.

Continuous Professional Development

This course is part of a series of training workshops organized by GASIMP to build the capacity of its technical workforce and support its humanitarian efforts in uncovering the fate of missing persons.
