GASIMP Participates in Regional Workshop on Transitional Justice and Missing Persons

The General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons (GASIMP) participated in a regional workshop on “Transitional Justice and Missing Persons in the Arab States.” The GASIMP delegation was led by the Authority’s Chairman, Dr. Kamal Abu Bakr, at the event organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Amman, Jordan, from June 9 to 10, 2026.

Broad International and Regional Presence

The workshop brought together more than 70 representatives and experts from several Arab nations and international organizations dedicated to transitional justice and missing persons files. The primary goal was to exchange expertise and discuss best practices related to this crucial humanitarian cause.

Presenting the Libyan Experience

During the sessions, Dr. Kamal Abu Bakr served as a keynote speaker in a specialized panel focused on forensic medicine, identification, and the dignified return of remains. He highlighted the Libyan experience and underscored GASIMP’s extensive efforts in searching for and identifying mi ssing persons using modern technologies and advanced methodologies.

International Commendation

GASIMP’s presentation received widespread attention and praise from the participants. Attendees commended the high level of technical and institutional development achieved by the Authority, as well as its vital role in supporting identification efforts and upholding the families’ right to know the fate of their loved ones.
