The General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons (GASIMP) officially announces the completion of identification procedures for ten (10) previously unidentified bodies. The victims were involved in a tragic traffic accident that occurred last week in the Abu Gurain area, east of Misrata, which resulted in the burning of two vehicles and the loss of ten lives.
Scientific and Legal Workflow
Following a mandate from the Public Prosecution, the identification process was conducted through a precise multi-departmental workflow:
-
Remains Management & Forensic Medicine: The bodies were transferred for examination and biological sampling.
-
Laboratory Analysis: Samples were referred to GASIMP’s DNA laboratories for advanced genetic analysis.
-
DNA Matching: The profiles were cross-matched with the Authority’s database of family reference samples.
Conclusion of Procedures and Handover
The technical results led to the full identification of all ten victims. Consequently, matching reports were finalized and referred to the competent authorities to complete the necessary legal documentation. Under the direct supervision of GASIMP and in coordination with the Public Prosecution, the remains were respectfully handed over to their respective families.
Condolences and Commitment
GASIMP extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims. The Authority reaffirms its unwavering commitment to its humanitarian and national duty, utilizing all available resources to identify the missing and serve their families.
May the deceased rest in peace, and may their families find strength and patience.
